Whole elk antlers are "the most durable natural chew" and are well-suited for aggressive chewers, such as German Shepherds or Golden Retrievers, as they provide a prolonged chewing challenge. They will NOT splinter.
Split antlers with their exposed marrow are softer, making them an easier and more enjoyable chew for less aggressive chewers and for puppies and older dogs with softer teeth. They offer immediate gratification and are excellent for dogs who may lose interest quickly or have weaker jaw strength. However, if your dog is a big chewer, they can splinter.
